May has now officially seen two back to back major chip development breakthroughs.
Following IBM’s 2-nm chip manufacturing announcement, TSMC and MIT declared their 1nm chips. Yet to go into mass production, this latest development is estimated to improve power saving attributes and higher speeds for future electric vehicles, AI etc.
According to the joint announcement, they have been able to unlock a set of new materials which can be used to create two dimensional transistors. They further stated that their research has enabled them to achieve zero Schottky barrier which essentially will keep power leaks at bay, to a minimum.
