A campaign calling people to extend their helping hand to the unfortunate people struck hardest by the ongoing pandemic, “Dakche Amar Desh”, was initiated by telecom operator Grameenphone, to be executed through a collaboration with the BRAC.
The initiative was announced on 24th April at a video conference attended by Grameenphone and BRAC officials. This initiative will be a platform promoting solidarity, and a call-to-action for public fundraising and institutional contribution.
Grameenphone contribute to BRAC’s emergency food assistance fund with a 15 crore donation, which will help BRAC reach 100,000 affected families. Each family is set to receive 1,500 taka for two weeks’ essential food supplies.
A nationwide survey by BRAC revealed that 14% of low-income families do not have food at their homes. The general holiday and lockdown has claimed the livelihood of many low-income families, and this campaign addresses this unfortunate population and extends public support.
The Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman said, “While Grameenphone is joining BRAC for the support of 100,000 affected families, I request all individuals and enterprises who can afford to contribute to this program, or other programs initiated by the government or other entities. Together, we can reach the maximum number of people who are in desperate need for help in this tough time.”
