Grand Finale of Telenor Youth Forum 2015 Concludes

Abreeshme Haque of Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Sadia Azad of BRAC University, and Sabab Rahman of IBA emerged as winners from Bangladesh at Telenor’s Youth Forum 2015 Grand Finale.

(Dhaka, October 10, 2015) Grameenphone today concluded the third installment of the Telenor Youth Forum (TYF) in Bangladesh. The Forum, in partnership with the Nobel Peace Center, offers an opportunity for young people, aged 18 to 28, from 13 countries to step up and present impactful ideas that can alter lives. The theme for this year’s TYF is ‘Knowledge for All’.

This year’s winning ideas are Muthoschool, The Left Side Classroom and The Glassroom. Telenor Group will now select the Bangladeshi representative to the Oslo event from these three.

The Grand Finale for participants in Bangladesh took place in October 10, 2015. Seven candidates, selected through a filtering process, presented their ideas to a judging panel consisting of experts from Grameenphone, university faculty members, local entrepreneurs from established startups, and other invited guests, including journalists, government officials, digital and social media experts, and senior staff members from different universities, and scholars. Out of the seven, three best ideas were nominated for the final round from which one or more ideas will be selected for the TYF conference in Oslo, which will be held from December 8, 2015 to December 11, 2015.

Nurul Islam Nahid, Education Minister; Merete Lundemo, Norwegian Ambassador, and Rajeev Sethi, CEO, Grameenphone were among the attending guests at the event.

The candidate chosen by Telenor along with winners from different regions of the world will attend a three-day conference in Oslo, Norway, where young people will meet to explore and realize the transformative power of mobile and digital communication. They will also get the opportunity to attend the Noble Peace Prize giving ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said,” I thank Grameenphone for arranging this great program. It is encouraging to our youth in preparation for our vision 2021. This program is empowering our youth with technology and skills not only on a national level but an international arena.”

Grameenphone launched TYF 2015 in Bangladesh in August through a press conference. The company invited students and interested applicants to submit their ideas through various online submission channels like Telenor webpage, Grameenphone webpage, official Facebook page etc.

The Norwegian ambassador said “Bangladesh is a young and dynamic country with a young and dynamic population – the generation of today has the creativity and abilities that will contribute to the advancement of Bangladesh. This generation has used technology to get where they are today and they have to spread this access to technology to the rest of the nation. Grameenphone and Telenor Youth Forum is the perfect partner in spreading this light.”
