“Standard”. The word in the modern world is synonymous with our consumption of products and goods. With time consumers have evolved to be more conscious of product quality and standards. With that bearing, October 14 of every year, is solemnized as World Standards Day. This special day is observed to honour the collaborative efforts of experts around the world, who develop voluntary technical agreements published as International Standards. The late 20th-century initiative was ushered in by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organisation for Standards (ISO), and International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This year marks the 53rd World Standards Day.
This very day, it is observed all over the world with utmost significance, especially among manufacturing companies, to ensure high-standard products.
World Standards Day, also known as International Standards Day, was first celebrated in 1970 following a gathering of delegates from 25 countries in London dating back to October 14, 1956.
In the fast growing world with multiple innovation and sectors emerging, keeping standard is one of the pivotal prerequisites for any company. Not to mention, while it’s a global concern to ensure sustainability and meet SDG goals by 2030, the significance of standard production has only emerged as equally vital. Therefore, it is a much sought after occasion to spread, share and celebrate the gravity of standardization among the manufacturing community both locally and globally.
The IEC, ISO, and ITU, collaborate each year to host World Standards Day on October 14. These three organizations also co-operate on different projects under the umbrella of the World Standards Cooperation. Organizations dedicated to standardization mastermind conferences, workshops, activities, and lectures on this day everywhere in the world. Each year, a specific theme is chosen to honor International Standards Day.
The Theme For International Standards Day 2022 is “Shared vision for a better world – Standards for SDGs”. The vision focuses on the important contribution of international standards to help achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Theme Is Explained By The Iso As Follows-
“The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which project to address social imbalances, develop a sustainable economy, and slow the rate of climate change, are highly ambitious. To reach them will require the cooperation of many public and private partners, and the use of all available tools, including international standards and conformity assessment.”
Bangladesh celebrates this opportune day with utmost sincerity. To commemorate the importance of it, different government bodies and private companies chalked out several programmes, including discussion meetings to observe the day.
BSRM, the leading steel manufacturing company and one of the prominent corporate houses in Bangladesh, also observed the day with profound importance as a token to their commitment of manufacturing standard quality steel products. To BSRM, the word “Standard” means the safety of the people. It lies at the core of BSRM’s brand essence. And that safety comes from fully complying with the right standards.
BSRM is the country’s first and foremost standards-compliant steel producer. The company has consistently taken on the challenge to upgrade and maintain its technological edge to produce steel that conforms to the most demanding global standards. From selecting raw materials, to plant and process technologies to employee training, they maintain standards that are world-class and second to none. BSRM not only complies with global standards but also conducts rigorous quality checks every 15 minutes.
As a result of their sheer quality checking and maintenance of standard, BSRM has been a major part in many of the country’s infrastructure projects. Over the years, BSRM steel products have been chosen solely for building major National landmarks and infrastructures like the Padma Bridge, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Hatirjheel Project, Zillur Rahman Flyover, Mayor Hanif Flyover and Shah Amanat Bridge.
This year, BSRM put forward the theme “No Standards, No Safety” to promote standarisation of products all over Bangladesh. Given the time and competition, such a motto is deemed a necessity for the greater good and prosperity.
