‘PREEMA DONNA’ EXHIBITION AND BOOK LAUNCH HELD

Nazia Anadaleeb Preema’s Solo Exhibition and Book Unveiling took place at the Bangladesh National Museum in Dhaka. It is the 22nd solo exhibition of the country’s most prolific visual artist Nazia Andaleeb Preema titled ‘PREEMA DONNA’ which is scheduled to be held from 2nd February to 15th February 2020. The exhibition will be a retrospective of Preema’s artwork, from painting to performance. The exhibition will run from Saturday to Wednesday from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm and on Friday from 2:30 pm to 7:30 pm. 

With the inauguration of the exhibition, the book ‘Preema Donna – An Infinite Journey’ compiled by artist Nazia Andalib Preema will be unveiled at the Nalinikant Bhattasali Art Gallery of Bangladesh National Museum at 6:00 pm on Sunday. The ceremony was attended by Honorable State Minister, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Mr. K. M. Khalid as the Chief Guest and H. E. Ms. Sidsel Bleken, Ambassador of Norway Bangladesh as the Guest of Honour. Mr. Abul Khair, Chairman, Bengal Group and Ms. Rokia Afzal Rahman, Vice President, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) also graced the ceremony as Special Guests. Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustee, Bangladesh National Museum presided over the session. Some of the other eminent attendees of the occasion were Artist Monirul Islam, Art Writer Professor Nazrul Islam and Director General of Bangladesh National Museum, Md. Reaz Ahmed. 

The exhibition is a collaborative effort between Bangladesh National Museum and Bangladesh Creative Forum along with strategic support from Preema’s Atelier. Other partners include Color’s FM as Radio Partner and Ekattor TV as Media Partner.

The book “Preema Donna- An Infinite Journey” is divided into five chapters reflecting on her journey toward creative process- Conflict, Wonder, Courage, Vision, and Connection. The book has been published and produced by Cosmos Books, supported by Bangladesh Brand Forum and forwarded by National Professor Dr. Anisuzzaman.

Nazia Andaleeb Preema asserts, on her 22nd solo exhibition “For me, art is feeble after all, unless it has spiritual and contextual content. I create my own context by breaking and entering into its new dimension. Hence this exhibition has painting, installation, text & performance gestures which represent my own freedom of existence. PREEMA DONNA is a leading lady who is provocative, imaginative and full of new possibilities.”

Preema is constantly expressing the representation of women in a metaphorical sense – whether traditional or digital – through her canvas. In 2019, Nazia Andaleeb Preema represented Bangladesh Pavilion at 58th Venice Biennale. She has been honoured with various awards in home and abroad along with prestigious Anannya Award as recognition of being the outstanding women in creative field of Bangladesh in 2014, Fukuoka Museum grant in 2012 for art residency, Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Award in Painting by Bangladesh Charushilpa Parishad (2007/2008), PRIDE of Bangladesh recognized her the most prolific visual artist of 2016, BASIS (Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services) award 2016 in Visual Arts category, and many more. She is currently the Director and Creative Editor of Bangladesh Brand Forum, Founder of Bangladesh Creative Forum and President of Women in Leadership.
