A proverb goes “Practice makes perfect.” But the BUMA family met in a point that: “Practice does not make a man perfect. Only PERFECT practice makes a man perfect.” In today’s world of business, practical know-how and hands-on knowledge can draw the line between the victors and vanquished. BRAC University Marketing Association (BUMA) organized an event by which a group of students got chance to arm themselves with the practical knowledge and prepare themselves by putting their business expertise to the assessment.
For the first time in the far-famed history of BRAC University, BUMA brought “Corporate Maven 2015”, a real-life business case competition where the participants got chances to dazzle the event ground with their brilliant business ideas. This intra-university competition provided the perfect platform for budding future business maestros of BRAC University to evaluate their suitability for the bona fide panorama, pit them against each other in a battle of intellect. The students were projected to present their solutions in front of the esteemed judge panel on cases which forced them to get out of their comfort zones and think outside the box. Furthermore, working in a team for glory also showcased their status as team players and inculcated the importance of cooperation in them.
The online registration held till November 6 and 32 groups registered. The jury board selected 11 groups for the semifinal round which held on November 11. At the semifinal round the judges were Mr. Md. Tamzidul lslam (Assistant Professor, BRAC Business School),Mr. Riyashad Ahmed (Assistant Professor, BRAC Business School), Mr. Mohammad Niaz Makhdum (General Secretary, Alumni Association of BRAC University), Mr. Refayat Ahmed (Marketing communication specialist, Grameenphone). Then 5 groups were selected for the grand finale round of November 12. The guests of the final round were Professor Rahim B. Talukdar Ph.D (Adviser, with dean’s status), Mr. Mohammad Reazur Razzak (Associate Professor & Acting Head, BRAC Business School), Mr. Tahsan Rahman Khan (Senior Lecturer, BRAC Business School), Mr. Solaiman Alam (Marketing Director, Banglalink), ASM Shakil (Commercial director, DHL). The advisor Ms. Ummul Wara Adrita(Lecturer, BBS), co-advisor Ms. Iffat Tarannum (Lecturer, BBS), Mr. Stawb Peter Halder (Total Remuneration & Payroll advisor at Chevron) and Mr. Amitav Debnath (Assistant Vice-president, BRAC Bank limited).
The champion “Team Vanilla” got taka 15k as 1st prize, the 1st runner up team “The Gen Y Marketers” got taka 10k as 2nd prize and the 2nd runner up “Team Marvels” got taka 6k as 3rd prize. The other 2 teams were “M4 crackerjacks” and “Cerberus” which also performed fabulous from the very beginning of the competition. The whole event was sponsored by BRAC Bank Limited, the media partner was “Somoy News.TV” and the strategic partner was “The Daily Star”.
The BRAC University Marketing Association (BUMA) is looking forward to organizing an inter-university business case competition very soon.
