GOBESHONA-ULAB-CSD Seminar: UN SDGs and Long-term Plan

On 16 November 2015 a seminar on “UN SDGs and Long-term Plan” was held in ULAB. Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB http://www.ulab.edu.bd) and the GOBESHONA, a national research platform, jointly organized this seminar with a notion of mobilizing organized inputs for the long-term plan/ Bangladesh delta 2100. Professor Imran Rahman, Vice Chancellor of ULAB inaugurated the seminar. Dr. Saleemul Huq, Director of ICCAD/GOBESHONA chaired the seminar.

Professor Hamidul Huq, Director of ULAB-CSD was the key note speaker on this seminar who presented on “UN SDGs and Long-Term Plan of Bangladesh”. During his presentation he pointed out that it is the crucial time for all the stakeholders to work collectively towards having a well constructed national long-term plan.

Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Project Director of Bangladesh Delta Plan- 2100 Formulation Project, Planning Commission was the guest of honor in this seminar who through his special speech pointing on so SDGs in the context Bangladesh. He mentioned that “we are aware of recent initiative of Bangladesh government for developing its moment is long term plan, which is known as “Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100”.

Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Water Governance Expert, Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 contributed as a panelists’ on this seminar. He has answered the questions from the audience and gave an overall comment to the audience regarding the topic of the seminar. Besides this, Dr. Rokeya Khatun, from GWAPB as well as Sarder Shafiqul Alam from Asian Cities Climate change Resilience Network (ACCCRN) gave an speech on “ Gender in Bangladesh Delta Plan”, and “ Sustainable Cities Long-term planning.”

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Saleemul Huq said “Bangladesh Delta plan and the long-term plan of SDGs” is a central concern of the moment that is that the UN sustainable Development goals are taken into account in this long-term plan, and organized contributions of all stakeholders may ensure it.

About 90 representatives from Different NGO, GO, Media, education and research institutes who work with the long term planning of SDGs in Bangladesh were also present in this seminar participated in this seminar.
