UTSHO Bangladesh recently hosted a special musical event titled “UTSHO Sandhya 2025”, featuring two of the country’s most celebrated contemporary music artists, Bappa Mazumder and Somnur Monir Konal, to raise funds for the welfare of underprivileged children. The event took place last Friday at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed International Convention Center in Shahbagh, Dhaka, where a full house enjoyed an unforgettable evening of music.
Despite the city remaining tense after the severe earthquake earlier that morning, audiences began gathering in large numbers at the venue from as early as 5:30 pm. Families arrived together, filling the premises with an air of excitement. At 6:30 pm, the host requested a brief delay to allow guests still stuck in traffic to arrive. Precisely at 7:00 pm, Bappa Mazumder, accompanied by his band Dalchhut, took the stage.
The artists captivated the audience with a rich mix of their most popular songs and a variety of other performances.
Bappa opened with his iconic track “Brishti Pore”, followed by audience favorites such as “Din Bari Jay.” The hall erupted with enthusiasm as the music filled the room.
Bappa then invited Konal to join him on stage, when the audience learned that this was, in fact, the first-ever joint performance by the two beloved artists. Konal began her set with the blockbuster title track “Priyotoma” from the film Priyotoma. Released in 2023, the song had created a global stir on music charts and became the fastest Bangla song to surpass 100 million views on YouTube. Together, the two artists performed around 15 songs, holding the audience spellbound for two and a half hours with only a short intermission.
Bappa continued with crowd favorites including “Pori,” “Baji,” and “Tomakei Bole Debo,” while Konal delivered hits such as “Rajkumar,” “Bosonto Chole Jay,” and “Ghum Jorano.” She also performed Joan Baez’s timeless classic “Bangladesh,” dedicated to the country’s Liberation War. Their duet performances—“Ektu Jodi Takao Tumi” and “Chokher Bhitor Shopno”—were among the most cherished moments of the night. People of all ages attended the show, and everyone left deeply moved. The artists expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful cause.
UTSHO Bangladesh works to ensure a safe future for marginalized children. Organizers stated that all proceeds from the event will support over 500 children and adolescents across UTSHO’s two schools and eight ‘Aastha’ daycare centers located in Dhaka’s slums.
UTSHO’s Founder and Executive Director Mahbuba Akter Mahmood Leena shared with the audience the inspiring story of how UTSHO began thirty-two years ago with only three children, and reaffirmed the organization’s mission to build a Bangladesh where every child grows up in a joyful, safe, and healthy environment—where no child grows up on the streets.
The event was powered by One Bangladesh. Co-sponsors included AMC Knit Composite, Central Women’s University, Gulshan Inner Wheel Club, Mac Lubricant, Polar Ice Cream, Shakti Foundation, and Urmi Group. Partner organizations included ABC Real Estate, Access Freight, Anwar Landmark, Bangladesh Finance, Multimodal Services, City Bank, DBH Housing Finance, DBL Group, Dhaka Bank, Eastern Bank, Finlay Properties, IFAD Group, IPDC Finance, Ispahani Group, New Jarwa House, IDLC Finance, Mastercard, Mutual Trust Bank, NovoAir, Padma Apparels, Paper Rhyme, Prime Bank, Reckitt, Richmond, Rupali Group, Technotel Maritime, Atlantic Resort, Three Angle Marine, and many other well-wishers of UTSHO.
